Brian Forberg joined the Chicago Police Department in July of 1995.
He was then promoted to Detective in May of 2000 where he worked at Area One (Central) alongside notorious torturers John Halloran and James O’Brien.
In November of 2004, Forberg was transferred to Area South where he remained until 2014 when he was promoted to Task Force Supervisor.
In 2016 he began working in conjunction with the US Marshals as part of the Chicago Police Department's Fugitive Apprehension Unit
Forberg has at least 38 allegations of misconduct against him, ranking him in the 93% percentile for the department.

On 1 May 2014, a mother alleged that Detective Forberg was holding her son hostage and threatened to charge him for criminal offense unless he signed over to him a gun or rifle. (CR 1068895). He was found to have violated Rule 2 (any action or conduct which impedes the Department's efforts to achieve its policy and goals or brings discredit upon the Department) and Rule 6 (disobedience of an order or directive, whether written or oral).
